Early Warning Signs of Diabetes

There are various symptoms in diabetes such as fatigue and weight loss, which are
called early warning signs of diabetes, which gives you a clue that you are developing
the metabolic disorder called diabetes.
According to a new British study, early warning signs of diabetes and heart disease are
more common among people, who report chronic work stress.

What are the early warning signs of diabetes?

Weight Loss:
Patient suffering from diabetes also lose weight, in spite of eating a lot or taking good
amount of food. Weight loss is a common symptom of type I diabetes and there are
various reason for weight loss in diabetes. As cells are not getting glucose for energy,
body cells utilize stored fat for energy resulting in decline in body weight. Excess of
blood sugar is excreted through urine. Because of decrease glucose supply to the cell,
cells die at an increased rate before they can divide and form new cell to replace
themselves.

Excessive thirst:
Increase blood sugar removes water from body tissues making you thirsty.

Increase frequency of urination:
Because of increased thirst, you will drink more water resulting into frequent urination.
Transfer of water from tissues to blood because of high blood sugar, also increases
frequency of urination.

Increase Appetite or hunger:
Glucose is a major source of energy for cells. In diabetes, due to decrease entry of
glucose into cells, muscles and organs cannot produce energy. This energy starvation
results in increase of appetite. However, in spite of taking more diet, this sugar cannot
enter into cells because of deficiency of insulin in body or body’s resistance to insulin
and hunger persist.

These three symptoms i.e. increase appetite, increase thirst and increase urination are
common symptoms of diabetes in early stage..

Poor or blurred vision:
Increased blood sugar removes water and fluid from lenses, which affects your ability
to focus resulting to poor vision

Studies have shown that supplements like chromium, alpha lipoic acid and vanadium
plays an important role in the management of diabetes. Chromium increases insulin
receptor numbers and insulin binding to cells, which is, required for entry of glucose
into cells. Some other supplement like evening primrose oil, fenugreek and herbs also
help in management of diabetes.

Clinical studies have proved that chromium and vanadium reduces requirement of
insulin in management of diabetes. Because of increase insulin receptor number and
insulin binding to cells and insulin like action, these minerals can also decreases the risk
of diabetes complications.

A review article on chromium has summarized the findings of 15 clinical studies in
diabetic patients. It mentioned that 13 of 15 clinical studies involving a total of 1,690
subjects reported significant improvement in blood sugar levels in patients with
diabetes mellitus. Supplementation of chromium had resulted in decreased blood
glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels and also reduced requirements for drugs
for diabetes.
